Studio Etiquette

Welcome to Union Studio Yoga!

A few things to enhance your experience of yoga here at the studio. We are so glad you are here! Namaste
  • Remove your shoes before entering the studio practice rooms.

  • We encourage you to leave your phones in the cubbies or in your car.

  • Be early to class. It can be disruptive to enter the class late. IF you arrive a few minutes late, take a breath, and quietly unroll your mat and enter as slowly and quietly as you can.

  • Bring your own mat. It's more hygienic. We do have mats and props to borrow of purchase if necessary.

  • Wear appropriate and comfortable exercise clothing.

  • Ask questions about anything that is not clear to you, either during class when appropriate or after class.

  • If you have health issues, please notify your instructor before class. Not every pose is appropriate for everyone.

  • Let go of the competitive mind-set. Yoga is noncompetitive. It is not just a workout, it is not just techniques for relaxation, and it not just cross-training. Yoga is a spiritual practice that makes the body stronger, more flexible, and generally much healthier. The purpose is to calm the mind, open the heart, and stimulate our spiritual evolution.

  • Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting where you are. There is no pose worth sacrificing your body for. Rest sometimes. No experience or flexibility is required to practice Yoga. Yoga is for everyone.

  • Stay for the entire class. If you need to leave early, tell the teacher beforehand and exit before the final relaxation.

  • Finally, most classes finish with the gesture and say Namaste. This means I honor the place in you which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you in which is of love, of truth, and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in the place in me, we are one.
